The United Nations (UN) is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.
The UN was established in 1945 to maintain international peace and security, promote human rights and provide humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict.
In recognition of the UN’s efforts for the past seven decades, cities around the world will be turning their iconic buildings blue on Saturday 24th October.
Abu Dhabi will be joining in with Etihad Towers, the Global Market Building on Al Maryah Island and the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain all being illuminated in blue for the evening from 6pm.
Other landmarks around the world following the initiative include the Empire State Building in New York, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, The Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy.
